Born in Tianjin in March 1955, native of Huangxian County, Shandong Province, he is a materials expert, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, academician of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, director of the Center for Environmental Materials and Renewable Energy Research at Nanjing University, and director of the Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Nanotechnology.

Graduated from Tianjin University in 1982;

Obtained a master's degree in materials science from Tianjin University in 1986 and stayed at the school to teach;

From 1991 to 1993, he worked as a visiting researcher at the Institute of Inorganic Materials, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan;

Obtained a doctorate in science from the University of Tokyo, Japan in 1996;

Resigned from his job in Japan in 2004 and joined Nanjing University full-time;

Elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2015; Elected as an academician of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World in 2018;

Served as the dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Fuzhou University from 2019 to December 2021.

Mainly engaged in research on energy and environmental materials.
